Australia's "photovoltaic distribution and storage" is expected to surge again in 2022
According to a survey by eupd research, the number of Australian photovoltaic system installers deploying energy storage systems for photovoltaic systems increased significantly in 2021 and is expected to surge again this year.
The company recently announced the results of a survey of Australian photovoltaic developers in 2021. The agency conducts research on photovoltaic developers and energy storage manufacturers and analyzes how these companies diversify their products.
Sunz has conducted a survey with 200 Australian PV research companies. Its findings support the view that the development direction of the photovoltaic industry is changing, and point out that it is driven by the increasing saturation of the market. The survey found that from 2019 to 2021, the installed capacity of photovoltaic systems installed in Australia increased at a compound annual growth rate of 26.7%. The residential sector accounted for most of this growth, followed by the utility scale sector, while commerce and industry lagged behind.
The number of photovoltaic developers deploying energy storage systems for photovoltaic systems increased significantly last year, from 41% in 2020 to 54% in 2021. About 30% of respondents said they planned to include energy storage systems in their portfolio by the end of 2022.
These figures confirm Kosta bourandanis, sales manager of wholesale distributor supply partners, about the saturation of the Australian photovoltaic market. He said that self consumption is the main selling point of most photovoltaic systems today, and the on grid price is no longer an attractive factor.
This is not surprising because sun wiz estimates that the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic installed in Australia by the end of 2021 is 26.9gw. As a reference, since 2020, the demand of Australian power market has just exceeded 30GW, so the market space left for other power generation types is also very small.
Bourandanis said that more and more photovoltaic developers are entering the electric vehicle (EV) and battery market because it is increasingly difficult for photovoltaic systems to export electricity to the grid. Although the development of electric vehicles is not detailed in the "Australian market briefing" released by eupd research, Saif Islam, a researcher of eupd research, pointed out that 12% of Australian photovoltaic developers are already providing solutions for the electric vehicle industry.
In 2021, one third of Australia's PV developers installed PV systems accounting for 89% of Australia's total PV installed capacity, while the remaining 65% of PV developers accounted for only 11% of the total installed capacity.
Scott Mason, general manager of platinum solar designs, pointed out that monopoly is an increasingly serious problem in the photovoltaic industry, which is exacerbated by the current governance structure.
