The Victorian Government in Australia has provided a round of funding for "neighborhood scale" battery energy storage.

This project is to demonstrate the capability of distributed energy storage.

Multiple values of "neighborhood batteries"

The size of neighborhood batteries is to serve the whole community, so that the residents in the community can benefit from roof photovoltaic, instead of having to invest in building a battery system.

At the same time, neighborhood batteries are smaller than utility scale batteries, making them easier to locate, possibly faster to build, and cheaper.

The Victorian Government approved 10.92 million Australian dollars (7.59 million US dollars) to support relevant projects through its "neighborhood battery initiative" funding plan.

The expert team from the battery energy storage and power grid integration project of the Australian National University said that these systems are generally between 0.1MW and 5MW, ranging in size from a wardrobe to a shipping container.

Neighborhood batteries can provide benefits to all energy users, especially house tenants and those who do not have PV installed, who can benefit from neighborhood batteries.
